Paint versus Wallpaper

Paint versus Wallpaper the great debate

Throughout the country, one of the most hotly contested debates (other than the dreaded ‘B’ word..) is the age old “to paint or not to paint.”

The walls of your home can transform the feel of the space with either paint or wallpaper.  A room that has a dramatic edge to it can be made light and airy with the application of a pale, neutral paint shade. Whereas a room that might feel cavernous can instantly be made to feel more cosy with wallpaper in deep, warm tones in a striking pattern.  There are a number of pros and cons of using either paint or wallpaper. Just some of the factors to consider are: ease of application (can you do it yourself or do you have to draft in someone to help you?),the cost and versatility to your space.

We are always happy to quote for both routes to make that comparison easier.

Paint The Town, Red  (or teal or blush for that matter!)

We have a dedicated paint area where we mix Little Greene and Paint & Paper Library paint colours to order and where you can look at and compare colour swatches, pick up free colour cards and purchase tester pots to try the colours out at home. In our case this is also supported by professional and friendly advice from our experienced showroom staff.

Rule Britannia!

The current best quality paint comes from premium British brands, including: Designers Guild, Little Greene Paint Co. and Sanderson (Little Greene & Paint Library being our preferred options due to their high quality finishes and pigments). Manufactured in the UK using the highest quality naturally occurring ingredients they are fully compliant with EC directives on harmful solvents. These premium paints give thorough coverage, with high pigmentation, great depth of colour and a beautiful finish that will make a real difference to your walls, woodwork, furniture and floors.

We are biased but we firmly believe that paints are a like a good wine – you definitely get what you pay for!

Little Greene is home to 300 years of the very best paints and wallpapers. They are the only British manufacturer still producing a complete range of traditional and modern paints including interior and exterior finishes, oil-based paints, floor paint and a range of hard-wearing water based ‘Intelligent Paints’, which offer both durability and convenience.

Designer Wallpapers

Wallpaper is a great way to achieve a new look in a relatively speedy and cost-effective way. The right choice of paper can help co-ordinate and add interest and a focal point to your new scheme. Modern wallpapers are incredibly easy to hang, some being ‘paste-the-wall’ rather than having to paste the paper first) and come in a comprehensive choice of colours, inspirational designs and innovative textures.

These brands offer an eclectic mix of designs, ranging from cutting-edge contemporary geometric styles, to timeless classics drawn from extensive archives. There bound to be something to suit your interior style. Little Greene, Paint & Paper Library, Zoffany,  Colefax & Fowler, Harlequin, Scion, Sanderson, Anna French, William Morris, Cole & Son are some of our ‘go-to’ brands when searching for suitable styles for clients.

Here at Rapport we have hundreds of different papers for you to choose from with new styles being produced all the time. Again our team are on hand to help with all important decisions and extensive experience of helping people make the right choice to create the desired effect that you will happily live with for many years to come.

Accessorise To Add a Finishing Touch

However you settle the debate in your own home, whether that be the traditional toss of a coin, or the dramatic threat of divorce, don’t forget those all important finishing touches!

To add that finishing touch to your new scheme or freshly re-upholstered piece of furniture co-ordinate with bespoke scatter cushions, bedspreads and lampshades….better still use your old lampshade frame and we will give it a new lease of life by recovering it in a fabric to match your scheme. Or we can source lampshade rings to make a shade fit exactly your lampshade base and scheme. It is never a problem for us to offer our thoughts and inspiration.
